Abstract

Background: Novel Coronavirus disease 2019 is a pandemic infectious disease that was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei China which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to estimate the pooled estimate of knowledge and practice level of health care providers towards novel coronavirus disease globally.

Methods: This meta-analysis was reported by using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines to determine the pooled estimate of knowledge and practice of health care providers towards novel coronavirus globally. PubMed, Google Scholar, Science direct and Cochrane library, and gray literature were systematically searched.

Results: The pooled estimate of knowledge of health care provides towards COVID-19 globally from 8 included studies were 78.87% (95% CI: 69.70-88.04) and the pooled estimate practice level of health care provides towards COVID-19 globally from 5 included studies was 77.78 %( 67.84-87.71).

Conclusions: during pandemic outbreak occasions like novel coronavirus disease 19 and others, health care providers should be knowledgeable and should practice well adhering strictly to national and international guidelines for effective prevention of transmission of disease within the community and across health care providers. But, the knowledge and practice of health care providers towards novel coronavirus disease 19 was not adequate. Health care providers should upgrade their knowledge and practice level towards prevention of novel coronavirus disease 19 using world health organization, communicable disease control, and other reliable organization Guidelines available online concerning novel coronavirus disease.
